- **Production area:** Serralunga d'Alba, foglio 8, parcels 335, 340. 360 m asl, on the top of the hill, south-facing. 0.7712 ha. Vine age varies: the central, largest part probably dates to 1972, the highest section (about 240 plants) to 1983, the lowest section (about 300 plants) to 2007.
- **Soil:** Serravallian-age Lequio soil: layers of grey marl alternating with sandstone, rich in potassium, boron, manganese and magnesium. Active limestone content of 13.58%, the highest in the Barolo zone.

- **Vineyard planting:** Guyot upward-trained vertical-trellised system, 50 q/ha yield
- **Vinification:** Grapes harvested by hand into 18 kg crates, bunches manually selected, sorted by conveyor belt before destemming. Fermented in 50 hl vats with daily racking and returning for 25-28 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. Aged in Austrian oak for about 40 months. First made in 1985; not produced in 1992, 1994 and 2002, with only 1,200 bottles in 2003. Since 2010, average annual production is 2,700 to 3,000 bottles.

## Tasting notes

Intense garnet-ruby red, deep and limpid. Complex bouquet of dark fruit, blackberry, citrus and rose, with balsamic notes of tobacco, liquorice and quina, and nuances of forest underbrush and wet limestone. Firm tannins, freshness, persistence and longevity on the palate.
