# Pelà (Cascina Penna-Currado)

> Red, Verduno Pelaverga DOC by [Cascina Penna-Currado](https://ilvinobello.com/wineries/cascina-penna-currado.md), Langhe, Piemonte, Italy. From Il Vino Bello (https://ilvinobello.com/wines/cascina-penna-currado-pela).

- **Producer:** Cascina Penna-Currado
- **Style:** Red
- **Denomination:** Verduno Pelaverga DOC
- **Grape:** Pelaverga Piccolo
- **Production area:** La Morra, on the ridge running towards Verduno
- **Soil:** Calcareous
- **Vineyard planting:** Vines about 15 years old
- **Vinification:** Grapes are chilled, then fully destemmed and crushed so only whole berries go to the vat. Chilling delays the spontaneous fermentation, which starts after about seven days and runs about 15 days without temperature control (never above 28°C), with one punch-down or a short pump-over a day. The wine is drained off the skins as soon as fermentation ends, with no extended maceration; malolactic fermentation completes naturally the following spring. Aged in tank.

## Summary

A light, peppery red from the tiny Verduno Pelaverga appellation, made with minimal intervention for easy, fresh drinking.

## Tasting notes

Pale ruby with bright cherry glints. Violets, cherry and fresh red berries on the nose, with the peppery lift (white and green pepper, a hint of coriander) typical of Pelaverga. Dry, fresh and light to medium bodied, with delicate tannins and a long, spicy finish.
