# Rodeo (Cascina Montagnola)

> Red, Colli Tortonesi Barbera by [Cascina Montagnola](https://ilvinobello.com/wineries/cascina-montagnola.md), Colli Tortonesi, Piemonte, Italy. From Il Vino Bello (https://ilvinobello.com/wines/cascina-montagnola-rodeo).

- **Producer:** Cascina Montagnola
- **Style:** Red
- **Denomination:** Colli Tortonesi Barbera
- **Grape:** Barbera 100%
- **Production area:** From a single estate vineyard in the Montagnola locality, whose naturally low-vigour old vines give exceptionally concentrated bunches.
- **Soil:** Predominantly clay soil on a marl-clay substrate.
- **Exposure:** South to south-west facing, at about 150 to 160 metres above sea level.
- **Harvest:** Hand-picked into 15kg crates.
- **Vineyard planting:** Planted in the 1950s with about one hectare of Barbera, the estate's oldest vineyard.
- **Vinification:** After crushing and destemming, the must macerates in steel tanks with frequent, intense pump-overs; after draining and a first racking, the wine completes malolactic fermentation in barriques. It then ages 15 months in barriques, half new and half second-use, followed by a further 12 months in bottle.
- **Serving temperature:** 18°C, in large crystal glasses, in both cool and warm seasons; good chilled appropriately in summer too.
- **Last updated:** 2026-09-25

## Summary

Cascina Montagnola's Colli Tortonesi Barbera, made in purity from a single vineyard planted in the 1950s and aged 15 months in barrique before further bottle age.

## Tasting notes

Deep, intensely bright ruby red. Elegant and complex on the nose, with notes of plum and violet over a base of tobacco and liquorice. Full, long and structured on the palate, with good acidity balancing the notable alcohol.

## Food pairings

Feathered and furred game, grilled meats, long-aged cheeses, dishes in salmì.
