- **Exposure:** West, south-west; 300 m
- **Vineyard planting:** Planted 1941/2000, 3,700 vines/ha at 1 m x 2.7 m, Guyot-trained trellis, K5BB and 420A rootstocks, yield about 6,000-7,000 kg/ha.

## Summary

Barolo from the 1 ha Sarmassa vineyard, whose old name Salmassa probably comes from a brackish spring nearby. Dry years suit it best, as the clay and silt hold water.

## Tasting notes

More elegant and ready to drink sooner than the other crus. Made only in great vintages and, after about 9 to 10 years from the harvest, described by the producer as a wine for conversation.

## Food pairings

Game and red meat, but elegant enough for a whole meal.
