## About

Schiavenza is a family estate in Serralunga d'Alba, in the Langhe. It began as Fratelli Alessandria; the later name is Piedmontese dialect for the sharecroppers who kept the keys to the farms here. The family's great-grandfather Maggiore bought the farmhouse in the 1920s, the first label dates from 1956 and the cellar was built the same year. Four family members joined in the 1990s and brought in Broglio and part of Cerretta. Today the estate farms eleven hectares between Serralunga and Perno, in Monforte d'Alba: Serralunga soils are silt and sand of the Lequio Formation, Perno's are sandier Diano sandstone. Every wine follows a single method so that each vineyard shows its own character. The range is Dolcetto, Barbera, Langhe Nebbiolo, five Barolos and a Barolo Chinato, and the family also runs an agriturismo lunch kitchen. Serralunga is one of the communes of the Barolo zone.
