## About

Pietro Cassina runs this family estate in Lessona, in the Alto Piemonte hills north of Biella, together with his wife and children. Their roughly seven hectares of vineyards, worked by the family for generations, centre on the Cascina Chignalungo, whose vines already appear on Napoleonic-era maps, alongside other historic plots in the same commune. Nebbiolo carries most of the range, joined by the local Vespolina and the white Erbaluce, aged for years in large Austrian and Swiss oak barrels, some of them built from oak grown on the property itself. The cellar runs three levels underground on gravity alone, cooled and humidified by a small waterfall, with solar panels covering part of its power needs.

Lessona sits in Alto Piemonte's Supervulcano area, its soils shaped by an extinct volcanic massif and later glacial and marine deposits, a combination that drew Nebbiolo growers here as far back as the nineteenth century, when the district's wines were already prized across northern Italy.
