## About

Marco Canato runs this family estate on the hills of Vignale Monferrato, in the Monferrato area of Alessandria province. His family took the historic Cà Baldea property on lease in the 1950s, recognised the quality of its soil for vines, and eventually bought the whole holding outright. The estate's own bottles carry the claim viticoltori dal 1740, tracing winegrowing on the site back to that year. Ten hectares of vines feed a range built mainly around Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese and Barbera del Monferrato, filled out with a barrel white, a sparkling rosé, a sweet white from dried grapes and simpler table bottlings. Wine ages partly in an infernot, a cellar the family hand dug into the local tufo, the traditional way of keeping wine cool here without machinery. Vignale Monferrato sits in the Basso Monferrato hills, about 10 km from Casale Monferrato.
