## About

Giovanni Daglio runs this family estate in Costa Vescovato, in the Colli Tortonesi hills of the Alessandria province. He comes from generations of farming stock and trained in pharmacy in Genoa, but the pull of the land brought him home to build up the winemaking side of the family's work. Since the 1980s the estate has kept making its historic wines under their original names, adding Timorasso along the way to round out the area's typical grapes, and has since renewed its vineyards and built a proper cellar and tasting room.

The range centres on Colli Tortonesi reds from Barbera, Croatina and an old, small-berried Dolcetto biotype called Nibiö, alongside a Timorasso bottled as Cantico that rests over a year on its lees before release, unfiltered and unsulphured. Costa Vescovato lies in the Tortona hills of eastern Piedmont, long the home ground of Timorasso, Barbera and Croatina.

## Wines (7)

- [Basinas](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/giovanni-daglio-basinas.md): Colli Tortonesi DOC Barbera, Barbera 100%, Red. Basinas is Daglio's Barbera from an 85-year-old vineyard on tufo soil, aged 12 months in barrique and a further 4 years in bottle before release.
- [Cantico](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/giovanni-daglio-cantico.md): Colli Tortonesi DOC Timorasso, Timorasso 100%, White. Cantico, also labelled Derthona on the bottle, is Daglio's Colli Tortonesi Timorasso: unracked, unfiltered and unsulphured, resting over 12 months on its lees before bottling the year after harvest.…
- [Negher](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/giovanni-daglio-negher.md): Vino Rosso, Negher 100%, Sweet. Negher is made from a grape once grown only marginally in the Colli Tortonesi and revived by the Daglio estate; despite the variety's dark, thick-skinned berries the wine itself comes out pale and…
- [Nibiö](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/giovanni-daglio-nibio.md): Colli Tortonesi DOC Dolcetto, Dolcetto 100%, Red. Nibiö is Daglio's wine from an old, small-berried Dolcetto biotype native to the Tortona area, vinified simply in cement and bottled only after 12 months' ageing.
- [Pias](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/giovanni-daglio-pias.md): Colli Tortonesi DOC Barbera, Barbera 100%, Red. Daglio's Colli Tortonesi Barbera, fermented in cement and rested in steel before bottling.
- [Rosè di Giovanni Daglio](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/giovanni-daglio-rose-di-giovanni-daglio.md): Vino Rosato Frizzante, Sparkling. A frizzante rosé made by the ancestral method: fermentation is stopped before bottling and finishes, with its sparkle, in the bottle itself, with no added sugar or yeast.
- [Zerbo](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/giovanni-daglio-zerbo.md): Colli Tortonesi DOC Croatina, Croatina 100%, Red. Zerbo is Daglio's Croatina, a grape once blended into Barbera locally and since revived by Tortona growers for its aromatic, balsamic character; ageing gives a full-bodied, persistent, tannic wine.
