## About

G.D. Vajra is a family estate in Vergne, a hamlet of Barolo, founded in 1972 by Aldo Vaira. Aldo fell for the vineyards as a teenager visiting his grandparents' farm in the summer of 1968, and by 1971 had become one of the first growers in Piemonte to farm organically. He now runs the estate with his wife Milena and their children Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro, working around 90 hectares, most of it on high, well-exposed ground, above all the Bricco delle Viole cru. The estate is known for its Barolo bottlings, Albe, Bricco delle Viole, Ravera and Coste di Rose, alongside Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa and a Riesling planted as early as 1984, among the first in the region. Farming has stayed organic for five decades, with permanent cover crops and Equalitas sustainability certification. Vergne sits among Barolo's highest hamlets, and Bricco delle Viole is one of the appellation's coolest, most Alpine-facing crus.
