## About

Franco M. Martinetti has been making wine in Piemonte since 1974, when founder Franco Maria Martinetti left a career in advertising to devote himself to it. He is the only Italian member of the Académie du Vin de France and has chaired the Académie Internationale du Vin since 2003; his sons now work alongside him, Guido in the cellar and Michele on the commercial side. The estate's vineyards sit in four different corners of Piemonte: Gavi, in the Alessandria hills near the Ligurian border; Nizza Monferrato and Vinchio, in the Asti countryside; Serralunga d'Alba, inside the Barolo DOCG zone on its marl and limestone soils; and Monleale, in the Colli Tortonesi. From these sites come Barolo, Barbera d'Asti and Barbera d'Asti Superiore, Monferrato Rosso, Gavi and Timorasso, each wine named for a place, a dialect word or someone close to the family.

- [Bric dei Banditi](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/franco-m-martinetti-bric-dei-banditi.md): Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Barbera, Red. Bric is Piemontese for a steep drop, and the Banditi were the daring, romantic outlaws of legend; the wine is made from Barbera, Piemonte's most widely planted grape.
- [Gavi](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/franco-m-martinetti-gavi.md): Gavi DOCG, Cortese, White. Gavi DOCG made from Cortese grown in the comune of Gavi (AL); Gavi is one of Piemonte's most prestigious native white wines.

- [Marasco](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/franco-m-martinetti-marasco.md): Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. Marasco is a Barolo from Serralunga d'Alba, its name playing on the sour-cherry (marasca) note in the wine's long finish.
- [Martin](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/franco-m-martinetti-martin.md): Colli Tortonesi DOC Timorasso, Timorasso, White. Timorasso is an ancient Piemontese grape grown exclusively in the Tortona area; its aromatic profile recalls Riesling, with structure and minerality reminiscent of Burgundy.
- [Minaia](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/franco-m-martinetti-minaia.md): Gavi DOCG, Cortese, White. Minaia takes its name from an outstanding site considered one of the great crus of Gavi.
- [Montruc](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/franco-m-martinetti-montruc.md): Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG, Barbera, Red. In Piemontese dialect Montruc means poggiolo, the top of a hill; in French it can also read as 'my thing', Franco M. Martinetti's own homage to Barbera, the grape he grew up on. It ranks among the…
