## About

Castello di Verduno is owned today by Gabriella Burlotto and Franco Bianco, and the castle has a long royal story: King Carlo Alberto bought it from two Turin charities and put General Staglieno in charge of the estate and cellar. The Burlotto family took over from the Savoy, and Commander Giovanni Battista Burlotto came home from Eritrea in 1950 to set up the hotel and restaurant and restart the cellars for Barolo and Verduno. The vineyards are split between Verduno (Massara, Monvigliero, Boscatto, Olmo) and Barbaresco (Faset, Rabajà, Campot, Bricco del Cuculo). Wines are vinified in Barbaresco in the traditional way, with open vats and long ageing in large oak casks, then bottled and aged in the castle cellars. Young oenologist Mario Andrion works with Franco's daughters Marcella and Giovanna. The estate owns the first Pelaverga vines replanted in Verduno, in 1972. Verduno is the northernmost village of the Barolo zone.
