## About

Cascina La Barbatella is a family winery in Nizza Monferrato, in the Asti hills roughly half an hour's drive from the city of Asti. It has harvested its own grapes since 1982, when Angelo Sonvico and the oenologist Giuliano Noè broke with local habit and planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir alongside the estate's older Barbera vines. The estate was relaunched in 2010 and is run today by Claudio Dacasto and Lorenzo Perego.

Barbera remains the backbone: a classic Barbera d'Asti, the Barbera-Cabernet blends Sonvico and Ruanera, and two Nizza DOCG wines, La Vigna dell'Angelo and its Riserva, grown on the Annunziata hill beside the winery. The range also includes a Metodo Classico sparkling wine, La Badessa, and two barrel-aged whites. Cascina La Barbatella belongs to the Associazione Produttori del Nizza, the group of growers behind the Barbera-only Nizza DOCG recognised in 2014, in an area that now sits within the Langhe-Roero-Monferrato UNESCO World Heritage site.

A visit to Cascina La Barbatella means tasting the estate's Nizza and Barbera wines in the Factory, the family's tasting room overlooking the hills of Nizza Monferrato. Reservations are welcome, and the estate can also arrange visits outside normal hours.
