## About

Cantina di Tortona is a growers' cooperative founded in 1931, when thirty eight vine growing families from around Tortona joined forces to vinify their grapes together and find fairer prices for their harvest. The cellar still stands in Tortona, in the Colli Tortonesi DOC zone in the far southeastern corner of Alessandria province, among hills that rise from the Tortona plain toward the Apennines. From the 1960s the cooperative pushed to have the area's Barbera and Cortese recognised as DOC, and its member growers today farm hillside plots across communes such as Viguzzolo, Monleale, Costa Vescovato and Sarezzano. The estate is best known for Timorasso, sold as Derthona, a once nearly abandoned white grape that Tortonese growers revived from the 1980s, alongside Barbera, Dolcetto, Cortese and Cellerina, a historic red variety Cantina di Tortona was the first to replant in Piemonte.
