The idea came out of Adriano Olivetti's argument that farming had to stay viable in an industrial Canavese. Membership passed 1,000 in 1961. Today about 230 members farm roughly 150 hectares, 110 of them registered for Erbaluce and Canavese DOC and DOCG, mostly on the loose moraine soils of the Serra d'Ivrea, often terraced and facing south and west. The cellar helped write the 1967 rules for Erbaluce di Caluso, and the wines still lean on that grape: dry Erbaluce, an organic bottling called Ramblè from the Cariola vineyard, Passito and traditional-method sparkling. Barbera, Nebbiolo and blended Canavese reds sit beside them.
