## About

Abrigo Fratelli is a family estate based at Cascina dei Berfi, in Diano d'Alba, where Ernesto Abrigo arrived from the Barbaresco area in 1935. His grandson, also named Ernesto, trained at the Alba enology school and began estate-bottling in the 1970s, building the range around Dolcetto, the grape the hills of Diano suit especially well. Barbera, Nebbiolo, Chardonnay, Arneis and Favorita followed over the years, and the family, now Ernesto with his son Walter and brother-in-law Emanuele Antona, bottles about 50,000 bottles a year. 2013 brought the estate's first Barolo, from the Ravera cru in Novello, alongside a Metodo Classico Alta Langa made from Chardonnay grown in Sinio. The winery holds SQNPI sustainable viticulture certification and runs partly on its own photovoltaic power.

Diano d'Alba sits in the Langhe hills a few kilometres southwest of Alba, historically Piemonte's Dolcetto heartland, and the Ravera vineyard in neighbouring Novello is regarded as one of Barolo's finest west-facing crus.

## Visits & tastings

Abrigo Fratelli welcomes visitors to its cellar in Diano d'Alba by appointment. The estate does not list specific tasting or tour packages, prices or opening hours on its own site; visits are arranged through its Winalist booking page.
