# Bibenda, DoctorWine and Vinibuoni 2027: Piemonte's Other Winners

_Three more Italian guides have named their 2027 winners. Six Piemonte wines took the top mark in three of the four big lists._

Tre Bicchieri gets the headlines, but it is only one of several Italian guides that publish their verdicts each autumn. Three more have now put out their 2027 lists: Bibenda's Cinque Grappoli, DoctorWine's Faccino and the Corone of Vinibuoni d'Italia. We have added all three to the bottles on Il Vino Bello: 128 Piemonte wines with Cinque Grappoli, 91 with a Faccino and 77 with a Corona. Here is what they tell us, and which bottles keep turning up.

## Three guides, three ways of judging

**Bibenda** is the guide of the Fondazione Italiana Sommelier, now in its 29th edition. Its top mark, Cinque Grappoli, went to more than 700 wines across Italy this year, and the producers will collect their awards in Rome on 28 November.

**DoctorWine** is Daniele Cernilli's Essential Guide to Italian Wine, in its 13th edition and published in Italian and English on 3 October. It reviews 3,476 wines and gives its Faccino seal, a small drawing of Cernilli's face, to wines scoring 95 or more, with a double seal at 98 and a triple at 99 or 100.

**Vinibuoni d'Italia**, edited from Canale in the Roero, is the guide devoted to Italy's native grapes. Its Corona goes to the wines with the highest scores in the regional tasting panels.

## The wines every guide agrees on

The most useful list is the one where the guides overlap. Six Piemonte wines on our site took the top award in three of the four big guides this autumn, Tre Bicchieri included:

- Elio Altare's [Arborina](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/elio-altare-arborina) Barolo 2022, which also repeats last year's Tre Bicchieri
- Ca' Viola's [Sottocastello di Novello](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/ca-viola-sottocastello-di-novello) Barolo 2022
- Gaja's [Costa Russi](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/gaja-costa-russi) Barbaresco 2023
- Pelissero's [Vanotu](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/pelissero-vanotu) Barbaresco 2023
- Claudio Mariotto's [Pitasso](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/claudio-mariotto-pitasso), a Timorasso from the Colli Tortonesi
- Tenuta Santa Caterina's [Monferace](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/tenuta-santa-caterina-monferace) 2021, a Grignolino d'Asti

That last one is worth a moment. A Grignolino standing alongside Barolo and Barbaresco is a good sign of how far the Monferrato's pale red has come, a story we told in our [recent piece on the grape](https://ilvinobello.com/editorial/grignolino-monferratos-pale-pip-filled-red-and-its-second-life).

## Bibenda: Barolo first, then the north

Bibenda leans hardest on Nebbiolo from the Langhe: more than half of its Piemonte winners on our site are Barolo, with Barbaresco a distant second. Its national top ten, announced at the end of September, includes one Piemonte wine, the [Villero](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/arnaldo-rivera-villero) Barolo 2022 from Arnaldo Rivera, the premium line of the Terre del Barolo cooperative.

The more interesting reading is further north. Alto Piemonte does well, with Nervi Conterno's Gattinara [Vigna Molsino](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/nervi-conterno-gattinara-vign-molsino) and [Vigna Valferana](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/nervi-conterno-gattinara-v-valferana), Travaglini's [Vigna Ronchi Riserva](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/giancarlo-travaglini-vigna-ronchi), Brigatti's Ghemme [Oltre il Bosco](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/francesco-brigatti-oltre-il-bosco), Davide Carlone's [Boca](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/davide-carlone-boca), Odilio Antoniotti's [Bramaterra](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/odilio-antoniotti-bramaterra) and Tenute Sella's Lessona [San Sebastiano allo Zoppo](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/tenute-sella-san-sebastiano-allo-zoppo). Ferrando's Carema [Etichetta Nera](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/ferrando-etichetta-nera) flies the flag for the mountain Nebbiolo of the Canavese.

## DoctorWine: the classics, and a few curveballs

Cernilli's seals also go mostly to Barolo and Barbaresco, but the list has some lovely surprises from outside the usual map. Cantine Balbiano's [Vigna Villa della Regina](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/cantine-balbiano-vigna-villa-della-regina) is a Freisa di Chieri from the vineyard of the Villa della Regina in Turin. Cantine Crosio's [Incanto 80](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/cantine-crosio-incanto-80) is a 2016 Erbaluce di Caluso metodo classico, Colombo's [Pinot Nero](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/colombo-cascina-pastori-pinot-nero) is a still red from a house better known for Alta Langa, and La Scolca's [Blanc de Blancs](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/la-scolca-blanc-de-blancs) from Gavi earns a seal with the 2015 vintage. In Dogliani, Abbona's [Papà Celso](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/abbona-papa-celso) is one of the few Dolcetto-based wines to make it.

## Vinibuoni: the native-grape map of Piemonte

Because Vinibuoni only judges native varieties, its list reads like a tour of the region's lesser-known grapes. Burlotto's [Verduno Pelaverga](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/cascina-massara-gian-carlo-burlotto-verduno-pelaverga), L'Astemia Pentita's white [Nascetta](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/l-astemia-pentita-langhe-nascetta), Le Marie's Pinerolese Malvasia [Blanc de Lissart](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/le-marie-blanc-de-lissart) and Mirù's [Uva Rara N47](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/miru-colline-novaresi-uva-rara-n47) from the Colline Novaresi are all crowned.

The Monferrato and Ovada also shine: Ruchè from Montalbera's [Il Fondatore](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/montalbera-il-fondatore), Ferraris's [Sant'Eufemia](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/ferraris-agricola-sant-eufemia) and Tenuta Montemagno's [Invictus](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/tenuta-montemagno-invictus); Dolcetto from Cà Bensi's [Poggio](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/ca-bensi-poggio) and Davide Cavelli's [Bricco Le Zerbe](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/davide-cavelli-bricco-le-zerbe); and a Freisa d'Asti, Cascina Gilli's [Arvelé](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/cascina-gilli-arvele). For something sweet, Caudrina's Moscato d'Asti [La Galeisa](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/caudrina-la-galeisa) and Cieck's Erbaluce passito [Alladium Riserva](https://ilvinobello.com/wines/cieck-alladium-riserva) are both on the list.

## Still to come

Two more guides are on the way. Veronelli's Guida Oro usually names its Tre Stelle Oro in late October. AIS's Vitae has switched to four lists of 100 wines this year and is releasing them one at a time ahead of its presentation in Florence on 14 November. We will add both to the bottles once the full lists are out. You can already see the Slow Wine Chiocciole on the producer pages, and the [Tre Bicchieri winners](https://ilvinobello.com/editorial/tre-bicchieri-2027-piemontes-winners-from-barolo-to-alta-langa) in our earlier piece.
